About Type O Negative
Artist Biography
Type O Negative wurden mit einem langsamen, düsteren Goth-Metal zur Kultband, ihre Texte drehten sich mit bösem Humor um Sex, Depressionen und Tod. Die New Yorker Gruppe wurde 1990 von Sänger und Bassist Peter Steele gegründet, der zuvor bei der Thrash-Band Carnivore spielte. Hinzu kamen Gitarrist Kenny Hickey, Keyboarder Josh Silver und Drummer Sal Abruscato (ab 1994 durch Johnny Kelly ersetzt). Die ersten Alben Slow, Deep and Hard (1991) und The Origin of the Feces (1992) sorgten mit ihrem dunklen Witz für Kontroverse. Bloody Kisses (1993) und vor allem October Rust (1996) setzten auf atmosphärischere, melodiösere Klänge. Mit World Coming Down (1999) wurde die Band wieder düsterer. Nach den Alben Life Is Killing Me (2003) und Dead Again (2007) starb Steele 2010, womit auch die Band ihr Ende fand.
