Alan Parsons mischte mit seiner Band Prog-Rock, sanften Pop, Klassik und Synth-Klänge. Davor wurde der 1948 geborene Londoner als Tontechniker bekannt – unter anderem arbeitete er an Abbey Road von den Beatles und dem legendären Pink-Floyd-Album Dark Side of the Moon. Mit Eric Woolfson gründete er 1975 das Alan Parsons Project, mit dem er Konzeptalben wie die Edgar-Allan-Poe-Platte Tales of Mystery and Imagination (1976) oder das Isaac-Asimov-Album I, Robot (1977) aufnahm. Mit AOR-Alben wie Eye in the Sky (1982) und Ammonia Avenue (1984) landete Parsons Nummer-1-Erfolge, aber 1987 beendete er das Project. Seinen rockigen Soloalben Try Anything Once (1993) und On Air (1996) folgten die elektronischeren The Time Machine (1999) und A Valid Path (2004). Die sechste Soloplatte The Secret folgte erst 2019, 2022 kam der Nachfolger From the New World.

Alan Parsons has also released music as a member of The Alan Parsons Symphonic Project.
