Keith Jarrett ist seit den 60er Jahren einer der bedeutendsten Pianisten, dessen Karriere in mehrere Phasen gegliedert werden kann. Mit seinen Solokonzerten, bei denen er die gesamte Musik ohne vorherige Planung spontan improvisierte, erlangte er internationalen Ruhm. Er war aber auch der Kopf mehrerer dynamische Quartette und Quintette, spielte klassische Musik und spielte noch später mit seinem langjährigen Trio neue Versionen bekannter Standards ein. Obwohl sein Hang, während seines Klavierspiels "mitzusingen," ab und an ablenkt, entwickelte sich Jarrett auch nach Jahrzehnten wichtiger Errungenschaften noch immer weiter als ausdrucksstarker Improvisationsmusiker. ~ Scott Yanow
