The Game ist einer der prägenden Westcoast-MCs der 2000er-Jahre. • Jayceon Terrell Taylor kam 1979 in Compton zur Welt – und wuchs folgerichtig unter anderem mit dem von Dr. Dre geprägten Westcoast-Sound auf. • Als junger Rapper schaffte er es dann tatsächlich, Dr. Dre mit einem seiner Mixtapes auf sich aufmerksam zu machen – es folgte ein Plattenvertrag bei Dres Label Aftermath und G-Unit, dem Label von 50 Cent. • The Games 2004 erschienenes Debütalbum „The Documentary“ gilt als moderner Klassiker des Westcoast-Rap. • Zwischen 2005 und 2006 gingen 50 Cent und The Game im Streit auseinander und Letzterer schwenkte von dort an in Eigenregie die Fahne für Compton und Westcoast. • Die Musik von The Game ist stark von klassischem Westcoast-Rap beeinflusst, bleibt aber offen für neue Sounds und Kollabos mit Pop-Stars wie Ed Sheeran.
