It Ain't Easy

When I was a boy I never knew much joy I only spoke when I was told to speak To sit up straight and be well behaved And to eat when I was told to eat As I grew up I got to realize in order to survive You've got to shout real loud and fight real hard So you can stay alive It ain't easy Lord it ain't easy Living in the world today Living in the world today When I reached my teens I was on the scene Going raving and getting high And though I hated the world But I loved my girl and for my best friend I would die Now I am a man I get to understand Some life philosophy You've got to take what you get from life today 'Cause tomorrow may never be Now the years have passed And the time is moving faster every day I take the good with the bad And dance with the sad As I move along the way Been in love nothing lost And now I stand and watch our children play And when they ask why does that man look so sad I just turn to them and say Can't you see living ain't easy Can't you see life ain't easy Today today today
